Description

Best known for its historic stands in Lebanon. Stately tree with a thick, massive trunk. Should grow 40 to 60 feet. Wide spreading branches reaching 80 to 100 feet. Dark or bright green foliage. Bark is gray-brown to brown forming a pebble-like appearance. Produces upright barrel-shaped cones purple-brown in color, requiring two years to mature. Prefers good, deep, well drained loam. Plant in open, sunny, dry location. Does not tolerate shade. Disease and insect resistant. A specimen tree of unrivaled distinction. Its dark green foliage, stiff habit, and rigidly upright cones give this tree a popular interest. This tree becomes more picturesque as it matures.
