Also called Blue Beech or Ironwood. Slow growing 20 to 30 feet in height and spread. Native from Nova Scotia to Minnesota, south to Florida and Texas. Small, multistemmed, bushy shrub or single stemmed tree with a wide spreading, flat or round topped crown. Found as understory plant along rivers and streams. Fall color yellow-orange, red and reddish purple. Good wetland plant.
