A compact, broadleaf evergreen growing 3 to 4 feet in height and spread. New growth is a rich bronze color, changing to lustrous green at maturity. Flower buds are dark red turning to dark pink then opening to a pale pink flower. These small, fragrant, urn-shaped flowers appear in mid April as large drooping, cascading clusters about 5 inches long. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Adaptable to most soils, but prefers acidic, moist, well drained soil. Low maintenance. Long blooming, flowers last two to three weeks. Use in foundation planting, for shrub borders, mass planting or a specimen.
